Colombo, Feb 5 – Australian fuel company United Petroleum has decided to withdraw from Sri Lanka, less than a year after entering the market.
The company has already begun the process of evacuating its employees, with contracts scheduled to be terminated from the first half of next month.
In a letter addressed to stakeholders, United Petroleum’s CEO cited unforeseen circumstances beyond the company’s control as the primary reason for the exit. However, no further details were provided regarding the challenges that led to this decision.
The departure of United Petroleum raises concerns about the stability of the country’s fuel supply sector, particularly as Sri Lanka continues to recover from economic difficulties.
Further updates are expected as industry experts and government officials assess the impact of this development.
