Colombo, Feb 5 – Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara has declared that the National People’s Power (NPP) government is setting a new standard in the country’s political culture, predicting a sweeping electoral shift in the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking at a recent event, Gunasekara criticized past politicians, stating:
“These are magic words for politicians who have lived in mud pits, draining the lifeblood of the people. These are magic words for leaders who have spent public funds on their children’s weddings and household luxuries.”
He emphasized that the NPP is establishing a new political culture, positioning itself as a government that serves the people rather than exploiting them.
“Let’s see what happens to those who are making noise now. The local government elections are approaching, and the rest of them will be washed away by the people of this country,” he asserted.
His remarks suggest growing confidence within the NPP as they prepare for the elections, which could mark a turning point in the country’s political landscape.
