California February 4, 2025 – The Sri Lankan Consulate marked Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day with a special celebration held at the Consular office in downtown Los Angeles. The event brought together Consulate staff, invited guests, and members of the Sri Lankan community in California to honor the occasion.
The ceremony commenced at 6:00 PM and concluded at 7:30 PM, followed by refreshments and a time of fellowship among attendees. The event featured several traditional elements, including the singing of both the Sri Lankan and U.S. national anthems, the ceremonial lighting of the oil lamp, and blessings from religious clergy representing different faiths.
A key highlight of the event was the emphasis on Sri Lanka’s ongoing ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The Acting Consular General, Mr. Anil Sirimanne, read a special message from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, while additional messages from Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath were also shared with the audience.
Adding to the cultural significance of the occasion, young members of the Sri Lankan community in Los Angeles performed a traditional song and dance routine, showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich heritage. The evening concluded on a note of unity and patriotism, as attendees reflected on the nation’s journey and its aspirations for the future.
