Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that the collaborative efforts of both public and private institutions are crucial in advancing the country and overcoming challenges. She highlighted the importance of teamwork and breaking traditional institutional barriers between government agencies and the private sector to achieve national development goals.
Dr. Amarasuriya made these remarks during a special program aimed at supporting children from low-income families by providing them with essential school exercise books and educational equipment. The initiative was jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, along with private sector partners Millennium Eight and Dialog Axiata, as well as several other public and private institutions.
The event was held at the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, where the Prime Minister elaborated on the government’s commitment to ensuring equal educational opportunities for every child. She credited the successful implementation of a transparent, efficient, and user-friendly system for distributing educational resources to the strong coordination between public and private sector organizations. This collaborative approach, she noted, has helped eliminate inefficiencies, reduce bureaucratic delays, and curb irregularities commonly associated with traditional administrative methods.
Dr. Amarasuriya further expressed confidence that sustaining this integrated citizen cooperation system would lead to greater efficiency across the state machinery, improving governance and service delivery.
Addressing the challenges faced by underprivileged children, the Prime Minister stressed that lack of physical resources often leads to school dropouts. She reaffirmed that preventing students from leaving school and fostering motivation to continue their education are key objectives of such initiatives. By addressing these issues head-on, the government, in partnership with private institutions, aims to build a stronger, more inclusive education system that empowers every child to learn with dignity and hope for a brighter future.
