The General Secretary of the Lanka Electricity Employees Union, Ranjan Jayalal, has stated that Sri Lanka urgently needs new power plants and is now relying on the private sector to construct them due to the government’s financial constraints.
Ranjan Jayalal also emphasizes that if President Anura Dissanayake is saying that he will build a power plant with the wealth stolen by Mahinda Rajapaksa becausePresident Anura has no money, then he will have it built at this time.
He further stressed that this government will not return such projects to anyone, nor should anyone expect to take them back. He also reminded that the recent wind power plant project had been awarded to businessman Dhammika Perera.
The comments highlight growing concerns over energy sector investments and the increasing role of private entities in Sri Lanka’s power generation infrastructure.
