Dr. Ilango Gandhi, leader of the All Lanka Progressive Workers’ Front, has raised alarm over the increasing sale of drugs targeting school children and youth, warning that such activities pose a serious threat to the country’s future.
Speaking to the media at his office in Hatton, Gandhi highlighted growing reports of drug distribution in the hill regions, with school children and young people being exposed to various narcotics.
Expressing deep concern over the issue, he questioned the fate of the country’s future if its youth fall victim to drug addiction. He pointed out that these young individuals, including school children, are meant to be the leaders of tomorrow, but their lives are being destroyed by the increasing spread of drugs.
Gandhi praised the Hatton Police for their recent raid, in which a large quantity of a drug known as N.C. was seized. He emphasized that had these drugs not been intercepted, they would have been distributed among local communities, worsening the crisis. He commended the officers responsible for the operation and called for continued efforts to combat drug-related crimes.
Urging urgent collective action, Gandhi stressed the need for society, law enforcement, and community leaders to work together to protect the country’s youth. Without such intervention, he warned that not only individual lives but also the nation’s future could be irreversibly damaged.
