Former Member of Parliament Kulasingham Thileepan was arrested by Tamil Nadu Police yesterday while attempting to travel to a European country using a different passport.
The arrest took place at Chennai airport as he was trying to leave Sri Lanka through India. Initially granted bail by a local court, Thileepan was later remanded in custody after being presented before the Kerala court.
His arrest follows a previous case in Sri Lanka, where he was taken into custody by Vavuniya Police in connection with a land transaction. After being produced in court, he was granted bail on the condition that he repay three lakh rupees in three installments to the affected party.
However, instead of fulfilling the court’s repayment order, he attempted to leave the country, leading to his arrest by Tamil Nadu authorities. He is now in police custody, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days.
