The political column of the Aruna newspaper has reported that a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP has revealed that around fifteen MPs representing the Nationalist Movement Party (NJP) are preparing to leave the government.
According to the report, a close relationship exists between a group of government MPs and an SJB MP from the Southern Province, with both groups regularly engaging in conversations about their past experiences and political struggles.
The NJP MPs have allegedly expressed their frustration over their current situation, claiming that they do not receive salaries or allowances and are being treated as subordinates by the leadership of the JVP and the National People’s Force. They have complained about being transported between parliament and MPs’ residences in a restricted and controlled manner, leaving them with no independent political life.
As a result of these growing frustrations, sources indicate that ten to fifteen government MPs may be on the verge of resigning from their positions in the near future. The situation has sparked speculation about potential political realignments and the stability of the current government.
