Pope Francis has been admitted to a hospital in Rome for further medical tests after contracting bronchitis, the Vatican has confirmed.
This latest health setback follows the cancellation of his planned trip to Dubai for the COP28 climate change conference in 2023, also due to bronchitis. Over the past two years, the 86-year-old pontiff has suffered from influenza and other health issues, raising ongoing concerns about his well-being.
Pope Francis has a history of lung problems, having had part of a lung removed in his youth. He has also experienced recurrent lung infections, which have led to periods of hospitalization.
In light of his current condition, the Vatican has canceled all public meetings scheduled for tomorrow, including a planned visit to Rome’s renowned Cinecittà film studio on Monday. Further updates on his health status are expected as medical evaluations continue.
