The 2025 budget has proposed a salary increase for government employees, with the minimum basic salary rising by Rs. 15,750. However, this increase will happen gradually in three stages until 2027.
Here’s how it will work:
- First Increase (April 2025)
- Rs. 5,000 will be added to the basic salary.
- An additional 30% of the remaining increase (Rs. 975) will also be added.
- This means a total salary increase of Rs. 5,975 from April 2025.
- Second & Third Increases (2026 and 2027)
- The remaining part of the Rs. 15,750 increase will be added in two more phases in January 2026 and January 2027.
In addition, a previous allowance of Rs. 7,500, which was already included in the salary, will be officially merged into the basic salary starting April 2025.
For example, a government employee who currently earns a minimum basic salary of Rs. 24,250 will receive the increase as follows:
- Total increase of Rs. 15,750 by 2027
- Rs. 5,975 added in April 2025
- The rest will be included in January 2026 and January 2027
This system applies to all public servants across different salary brackets, ensuring that government employees receive gradual salary improvements over the next three years.
