A 49-year-old man from Pandulagama, Anuradhapura, has been arrested for sexually harassing multiple women by sending them indecent photos, sexual content, and audio recordings via WhatsApp, police confirmed.
The arrest was made following an investigation by the North Central Province Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Authorities launched the inquiry after receiving complaints from victims who had been targeted by the suspect.
Investigations revealed that the suspect collected phone numbers of women when they visited a service center to repair their motorcycles. He later used these contact details to send inappropriate and unsolicited messages.
The suspect was arrested on February 17 and subsequently produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court on February 18. The court has remanded him until February 25, pending further investigations.
The Cyber Crime Investigation Unit continues to probe the case, urging victims to come forward if they have been subjected to similar harassment.
