Police have revealed that a woman disguised as a lawyer was involved in the assassination of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa inside the Aluthkade court complex, assisting the gunman who also posed as a lawyer.
According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga, the woman smuggled the firearm into the courtroom by concealing a revolver inside a copy of the Criminal Procedure Code. Once inside, she handed the weapon to the disguised gunman, who then carried out the execution.
Investigations confirm that the shooter entered the court premises empty-handed to avoid suspicion, relying on the female accomplice to deliver the weapon. Law enforcement agencies are now analyzing CCTV footage and witness statements to identify and apprehend the woman who aided in the attack.
The incident has raised serious concerns about security lapses in court premises, prompting increased security measures, including mandatory body searches for lawyers and court visitors to prevent similar breaches in the future.
