A video circulating on social media from the Aluthkade courthouse shooting has raised serious concerns about the lack of immediate medical assistance provided to Ganemulla Sanjeewa, the underworld figure who was shot inside the courtroom.
The footage shows police and security personnel gathered near the injured victim, but no immediate efforts were made to rush him to a hospital. The video captures Ganemulla Sanjeewa lying on the witness stand, visibly breathing, with a gunshot wound to his chest, while officers observe the situation and discuss the incident rather than providing urgent medical assistance.
A voice in the video can be heard saying, “No one is checking if this man is alive. He is breathing. But no one is checking.”
Eventually, Ganemulla Sanjeewa was taken to Colombo National Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. However, questions remain about how long it took to transport him and whether immediate medical attention could have altered the outcome.
Meanwhile, social media users have criticized the apparent lack of emergency preparedness at the courthouse. One user questioned, “This is 2025, and there is no medical center, stretcher, or ambulance ready at Sri Lankan courts? Even supermarkets in other countries have these things in place.”
The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with calls for better emergency response protocols, proper medical training for law enforcement personnel, and improved healthcare facilities within high-risk public institutions such as courts.
