Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has urged authorities to enhance security measures for judges, journalists, and the public, following a recent shooting inside a courthouse.
Addressing Parliament, Premadasa emphasized the necessity of protecting journalists like Chamuditha Samarawickrama, who currently face significant threats. He stressed that the collapse of the judicial system would lead to societal breakdown and called for the government to maintain and strengthen security provisions for judges and public safety.

Senior journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama has reported that four individuals he interviewed were mysteriously killed recently. Expressing concern over these incidents, he has requested increased protection for journalists. One such victim, Aruna Vidanagamage, also known as ‘Kajja,’ was fatally shot in Middeniya shortly after participating in an interview where he identified himself as an associate of the Rajapaksa family.
These events highlight the escalating threats faced by media personnel in Sri Lanka and underscore the urgent need for robust security measures to safeguard those upholding democratic values.
