The Children and Women’s Bureau has informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that complaints have been filed regarding the online circulation of pornographic photos and videos involving Sri Lankan children.
According to the bureau, the complaints were lodged by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), a U.S.-based organization dedicated to child protection. The reports allege that sexually exploitative content featuring Sri Lankan minors has been uploaded and shared on various online platforms.
The Women’s Chief Inspector of the Child and Women’s Abuse Prevention Bureau presented details of two specific complaints to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. In response, the court has directed the bureau to submit progress reports on the investigations into these allegations.
Authorities are now working to trace the origins of the content, identify those responsible, and take necessary legal action to combat child exploitation in Sri Lanka.
