
A meeting was held between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulla Khaleel, at the Presidential Secretariat, where discussions focused on Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and how its strategies could assist the Maldives in overcoming its own financial crisis.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Khaleel conveyed the best wishes of the Republic of Maldives to the Sri Lankan government, praising the progress made since the recent elections. He expressed his admiration for Sri Lanka’s rapid economic recovery, highlighting how the country has managed to stabilize after a period of severe financial hardship. He also stated that the Maldives is looking to learn from Sri Lanka’s experience in order to navigate its own economic challenges.
As a gesture of goodwill and to further strengthen diplomatic ties, Foreign Minister Khaleel extended an official invitation to President Dissanayake to visit the Maldives. The Sri Lankan President expressed his appreciation for the Maldives’ ongoing support and cooperation, acknowledging the strong relationship between the two nations.
The meeting was attended by High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives Masood Imad, Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya, Aminath Abdulla Didi, and a group of invited dignitaries.
The discussions marked an important step in bilateral cooperation, as the Maldives explores Sri Lanka’s economic strategies to strengthen its own financial recovery.
