
The government will soon announce information about the frauds committed at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the names of those who benefited from them, Chief Organizer of the ruling party, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, said in Parliament.
“We will submit a report on how the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation was turned into a loss-making institution and how the ministers who were in charge at the time were involved. We will reveal everything,” said Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, responding to a question raised by Kurunegala District Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
MP Dayasiri Jayasekara had asked when the government would confirm the allegations made five months ago that former Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera had profited from transactions involving the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
In response, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that investigations are underway and that the current Minister of Energy will update Parliament on their progress promptly.
The Minister revealed that from October 22, 2023, to October 24, 2024, a total of Rs. 265.63 billion had been earned in tax revenue from the sale of petroleum products. He further pointed out that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation had earned a profit of Rs. 42.04 billion during that period.
Additionally, Minister Jayatissa stated that the government will definitely reduce the fuel tax. He confirmed that work has already begun in this regard and that a detailed report on the fuel tax will be submitted to Parliament soon.
“We will submit a report on how the Oil Corporation was turned into a loss-making institution and how the ministers in charge at the time were involved. We will reveal everything. The Minister in charge of the subject will also give this matter the necessary attention,” he said.
