Postal workers are set to launch a 48-hour strike starting at midnight on Tuesday 9Local Time) in protest over the proposed sale of two central post offices in the country.
The trade union action is to press home a demand to halt the sale of the two buildings situated in Nuwara-Elia and Kandy in the central part of the country, Co-convener of United Postal Trade Unions’ Front Chinthaka Bandara said.
He warned that the strike would be continuous if the authorities fail to heed to their demands.
Both post offices built during the colonial era of the British Raj have substantial value for its architecture and central locations in the heart of the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya towns.
