President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has reassured the nation that there is no threat to national security, despite the recent surge in criminal activities and concerns over escalating violence.
Speaking to the media following his visit to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy today (23), the President dismissed speculation that the country is facing a wider security crisis, emphasizing that the recent incidents are the result of conflicts between underworld gangs rather than a breakdown of national security.
He acknowledged the increasing number of underworld-related shootings and violent crimes, but maintained that law enforcement agencies are actively addressing the situation. The President stated that the government has taken prompt and decisive measures to suppress organized crime networks and prevent further unrest.
President Dissanayake also assured the public that the security forces remain fully prepared to tackle any threats and that no group will be allowed to destabilize the country. He emphasized that the government is focused on strengthening intelligence operations, increasing police surveillance, and ensuring swift legal action against those involved in criminal activities.
The President further reiterated his administration’s commitment to public safety and assured citizens that efforts to restore peace and curb gang violence will continue with full force.
