Hambantota District Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Dilip Wedaarachchi has stated in Parliament that if any harm befalls him, the Speaker, the Defense Secretary, and the current government must be held accountable.
Participating in the second reading of the budget debate, he demanded that the firearms taken from MPs be returned for their protection.
“The government took possession of our firearms. I paid eight hundred thousand rupees for those weapons to protect my life and property. Now our security has been removed,” he said.
He added, “If there is a problem with my life, the Speaker, the Defense Secretary, and this government must be held accountable. Meanwhile, firearms held by underworld elements in villages remain unseized. Give firearms to our other MPs as well.”
Wedaarachchi further emphasized that despite a request for security in the Hambantota district due to underworld threats, no action has been taken. He pointed out that a letter was sent to the IGP via the Speaker, but security has still not been provided.
