Washington, D.C. – Former President Donald Trump has unveiled a new immigration program allowing wealthy foreign investors to secure U.S. citizenship by purchasing a special “gold card” for $5 million. This initiative is set to replace the existing EB-5 immigrant investor visa program.
Speaking to the media, Trump explained that the gold card program offers an alternative to the EB-5 visa, which has long allowed foreign investors to obtain green cards by investing in U.S. businesses. Unlike the EB-5 program, which required investments ranging from $800,000 to $1.05 million and the creation or preservation of jobs, the new gold card will grant a direct path to permanent residency based solely on financial investment.
Under this initiative, foreign nationals who invest a significant sum in the U.S. will be granted a gold card, which will serve as a fast-track route to American citizenship. Trump stated that the program aims to attract high-net-worth individuals, boosting the U.S. economy and generating revenue that could be used to address national debt concerns.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the gold card program could potentially be extended to affluent individuals from Russia and other countries, provided they meet stringent vetting requirements. Trump emphasized that only individuals deemed “world-class global citizens” would be eligible for the program.
While details on implementation remain pending, Trump’s team has indicated that the program will be officially launched within the next few weeks. The policy shift has already sparked debate, with supporters arguing that it could drive economic growth while critics raise concerns over ethics and national security implications.
Authorities are expected to release more details soon regarding the structure, eligibility criteria, and potential restrictions for the gold card initiative.
