A special investigation is being conducted to determine whether the suspect arrested in connection with the shooting of underworld leader Sanjeewa of Ganemulla at the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court was indeed the gunman.
Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police, Advocate Buddhika Manathunga, stated that authorities want to leave no doubt regarding the suspect’s involvement. As part of the investigation, CCTV footage from the court premises on the day of the incident will be analyzed to confirm the suspect’s identity, and expert recommendations will be sought.
Further forensic evidence, including fingerprint and DNA analysis, will be gathered from independent experts outside the police force to ensure an unbiased investigation.
Manathunga confirmed that sufficient evidence has already been collected to establish the suspect’s identity. The suspect’s mobile phone records from the day of the shooting are being used as key evidence, along with the clothes he was wearing at the time, which have since been recovered by the police.
Additionally, evidence from the suspect’s accommodation prior to the murder has been gathered, and CCTV footage has been secured to further support the investigation.
Speaking at a media briefing in Suhurupaya, Battaramulla, Manathunga emphasized that the police are taking all necessary steps to confirm the shooter’s identity beyond any doubt.
