Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero has alleged that Sri Lanka’s most dangerous terrorist group remains aligned with Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s government. Speaking at a media conference after being released on bail, he questioned whether people should be afraid to speak this truth.
He further accused several members of the current government of having played a significant role in fostering Muslim extremism and claimed that many Islamic extremist groups in Sri Lanka are actively supporting the government.
Dismissing allegations against Bodu Bala Sena, he challenged authorities to provide proof if the organization had ever engaged in political contracts or agreements.
Addressing the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, Gnanasara Thero alleged that Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith had been warned about the attack in advance but ignored the warning. He claimed that he personally met with the Archbishop and held extensive discussions before the attacks, cautioning him about the threat posed by extremist groups, yet no action was taken.
Gnanasara Thero emphasized that while the BBS had access to classified intelligence about extremist activities, they did not have the authority to control the security forces. He stated that he had been issuing warnings about extremist threats since 2014, even sending 17 letters to government leaders, but his concerns were overlooked.
He also referred to the Presidential Task Force for ‘One Country, One Law’, established under Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s administration, where he claimed to have independently gathered critical intelligence on extremist groups. Despite submitting a detailed report, he lamented that no action was taken.
The saddest reality is that there are people in SL who believe this charlatan, when he says this and anything else he chooses to disgorge.
