Seventeen-year-old Thomian bowling all-rounder Chrishen Warnasuriya has returned to Sri Lanka after completing a three-year cricket scholarship at Cranleigh School, Surrey. He has now been registered in the 1st XI squad of S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia, for the ongoing U-19 Schools Cricket season.
Chrishen, who earned his 1st XI cap at Cranleigh, delivered impressive performances during his time in England. He consistently ranked among the top 10 averages in county cricket seasons and was one of the leading wicket-takers. Despite being eligible for another year on a funded bursary and a potential university placement in the UK, he chose to return to Sri Lanka, describing it as his true home.
A former SSC Junior Cricket captain and opening batsman, Chrishen also had the unique distinction of being the only schoolboy to feature in three consecutive Royal-Thomian encounters in the UK (2022, 2023, and 2024). He made a significant impact, finishing as the Thomians’ highest wicket-taker in 2022 and 2023, claiming some notable Royalist wickets along the way.
As he steps back into the Sri Lankan cricketing circuit, we eagerly anticipate his contributions to the domestic scene and wish him success in his cricketing journey.
