Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe dropped a bombshell in Parliament amid pin drop silence on Wednesday morning revealing the names of the judges as close relations of officials running Sri Lanka Cricket in whose favour they ruled to suspend his Interim Committee.
In a near 20-minute shocker Minister Ranasinghe disclosed with photographic evidence the closeness enjoyed by Sri Lanka Cricket officials and the culprit judges of the Court of Appeal which he said paid scant respect to the Probe Report that provided evidence to declare the currently serving cricket officials as being responsible for corruption and power abuse.
Minister Ranasinghe named the judges being in the payroll of corrupt Sri Lanka Cricket officials such as Ban – – la Karu – – – – tne and Pri – – – tha Fern – – do that shocked Parliament and his speech was applauded by both the Government and Opposition.
Despite being cautioned by the Speaker to refrain from implicating judges and their names, Minister Ranasinghe declared: “If we cannot discuss these things in Parliament, where else can we do it. Innocent people in this country who are calling for the eradication of corruption in cricket have a right to know”.
Minister Ranasinghe also disclosed how when he after accepting his portfolio as Sports Minister met President Ranil Wickremasinghe on May 29 and recalled the words of the Head of State at the special meeting.
“Roshan, I want you to clean up this cricket mess,” Minister Ranasinghe revealed in Parliament.
Minister Ranasinghe said it was shocking to him when a circular came out from the President’s office saying he (President) did not approve of him sacking corrupt cricket officials and appointing an Interim Committee headed by former Sri Lanka Cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga.
