The Fuel Distributors Association has warned that fuel supplies will run out at filling stations across the country by Monday, following the completion of deliveries today and tomorrow.
According to the association, the fuel currently being distributed was ordered and paid for last Friday, and no new orders have been placed.
Vice-Chairman Kusum Sandanayake stated that all available stocks will be distributed within today and tomorrow, and no further fuel will be ordered until their concerns are addressed. As a result, a nationwide fuel shortage is expected starting Monday.
He explained that the association decided to halt new orders after unsuccessful discussions regarding the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s (CPC) decision to remove the three percent commission previously granted for fuel distribution and introduce a new pricing formula.
Despite multiple discussions, no positive response was received, leaving them with no alternative but to take this action.
However, Sandanayake urged all relevant authorities, including the President, to intervene and find a solution to the issue.
He made these remarks while addressing the media in Colombo.
