Sri Lanka is setting up a Tax Crimes Investigation (TCI) unit within the Department of Inland Revenue as part of its efforts to curb corruption and improve tax administration, according to documents from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.
The document states that the unit will be separate from standard audit functions and is expected to be fully operational by the end of February 2025. However, it remains unclear whether the unit has already been established.
Additionally, digitalization efforts are being pursued to enhance transparency and reduce corruption within the tax system. The move is part of Sri Lanka’s broader strategy to strengthen tax administration and boost government revenue as part of its economic recovery plan.
