
A heated dispute has emerged between Sri Lanka’s Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the National Police Commission, with both sides exchanging strong statements.
The Acting IGP has repeatedly claimed—both in verbal submissions and written statements—that the National Police Commission is interfering in police operations, obstructing his duties, and influencing internal matters.
However, the Police Commission has firmly denied these allegations, stating in a six-page official statement that it has always acted in full compliance with constitutional law and national regulations.
As tensions rise, this open conflict between two key law enforcement bodies raises concerns over governance, authority, and institutional independence within Sri Lanka’s policing system.
