Beijing, China – China has issued a strong warning to the United States following President Donald Trump’s decision to double tariffs on Chinese imports, stating that it is prepared for a prolonged confrontation if necessary.
In response to Trump’s increase in tariffs from 10% to 20% on Chinese goods in February, the Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the move as based on naive arguments and vowed to take necessary countermeasures.
“If the U.S. wants war, we are reaady to fight to the end,” ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated in a media briefing, emphasizing that China is prepared to engage in any form of conflict, whether it be a tariff war, trade war, or otherwise.
As part of its retaliation, China announced new tariffs of up to 15% on a wide range of U.S. agricultural exports, including soybeans, pork, beef, chicken, and cotton, effective immediately.
The escalation in trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies has raised concerns about the potential for further economic instability and global market disruptions. While the U.S. has justified its tariff hike as a measure to address trade imbalances, China’s response suggests that the dispute could intensify into a broader economic confrontation.
With both sides firm in their positions, the likelihood of a diplomatic resolution remains uncertain, leaving global investors and industries bracing for further volatility in the coming weeks.
