Colombo, Sri Lanka – President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) officials to ensure the full collection of tax revenue as per government targets for the year.
During a high-level meeting at the Presidential Secretariat, the President discussed strategies to achieve the Inland Revenue Department’s revenue goals and emphasized the need for a more proactive approach to address uncollected taxes.
Highlighting concerns over shortfalls in tax collection, the President urged officials to adopt new intervention methods rather than relying on traditional revenue collection techniques. He stressed that all due taxes must be fully collected, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening fiscal discipline and boosting state revenue.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Labor and Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mahinda Siriwardena, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Russell Aponsu, and Acting Commissioner General of the Inland Revenue Department R.P.H. With Sri Lanka’s economic recovery heavily dependent on tax revenue, the government’s renewed focus on tax compliance signals a firm stance on financial accountability and revenue generation in the coming months.
