
Colombo, Sri Lanka – The Sri Lanka Police has announced a 25% increase in rewards for traffic police officers detecting traffic violations, following a circular issued by Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya.
Effective February 1, 2025, the revised reward scheme applies to Senior Deputy Inspector Generals (SDIGs), Officers-in-Charge (OICs), traffic OICs, inspector-grade officers, police sergeants, police constables, and police constable drivers engaged in traffic-related duties.
The Acting IGP has also instructed that allowances be paid without delay, ensuring officers receive their increased incentives promptly. The circular highlights that the primary goal is to improve efficiency and motivation among traffic officers, leading to better enforcement of road laws.
The Sri Lanka Police emphasized that traffic division officers continue to play a crucial role in reducing road accidents, speeding violations, and drunk driving incidents, contributing to overall road safety improvements across the country.
