Colombo, Sri Lanka – Three police officers attached to the Kollupitiya Police Station have been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe from an Austrian tourist woman in exchange for not taking legal action against her for possessing foreign cigarettes.
According to police reports, a sergeant and two constables were taken into custody after being accused of demanding Rs. 50,000 from the tourist as a bribe.
Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident, which has sparked concerns over police misconduct and corruption within law enforcement.
