Former Provincial Councilor Waruna Rajapaksa has accused National People’s Power (NPP) MP and former Speaker Ashoka Ranwala of illegally reclaiming paddy lands on a large scale.
Rajapaksa claims that lands within the Kelani River valley, Biyagama South, and the Rajasinghe Canal area have been reclaimed in violation of land regulations. He further alleges that these lands, which are crucial for agriculture and environmental stability, are being used for unauthorized purposes.
To support his claims, Rajapaksa has released a video on his online platform, showing images that allegedly depict the reclaimed areas. He has called for an immediate investigation into the matter and urged authorities to take legal action against those responsible.
No response has been issued by Ashoka Ranwala or NPP regarding these allegations. However, environmental groups and concerned citizens are closely monitoring the situation, calling for stricter enforcement of land protection laws.
