Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala stated that there are legal measures available if former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon continues to evade arrest.
Speaking at a ceremony in Colombo, Watagala confirmed that despite police teams being deployed to apprehend Tennakoon, he remains in hiding. He emphasized that the law allows for freezing the assets of individuals who abscond while under a court warrant.
“If he wishes to protect his movable and immovable properties, he should come forward and surrender instead of remaining in hiding,” the Deputy Minister warned.
Watagala reaffirmed that the government is prepared to take all necessary legal steps to ensure accountability.
