
In a historic milestone for Sri Lanka’s IT and electronics manufacturing industry, EWIS Colombo, the country’s first and only local computer manufacturer, has successfully exported its first locally manufactured laptop to Zimbabwe.
This achievement marks Sri Lanka’s entry into the global IT hardware sector, showcasing the country’s potential as an emerging force in technology manufacturing. It also highlights EWIS’s commitment to innovation, quality, and excellence on the international stage.
The company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Suriyawewa played a crucial role in this achievement. With over 11 years of expertise in manufacturing and assembly, EWIS Colombo has been a pioneer in advancing Sri Lanka’s ICT sector. As a company approved under Section 17 of the Board of Investment (BOI), EWIS established Sri Lanka’s first and only computer manufacturing facility, paving the way for future technology exports.
Chairman of EWIS Colombo, Sanjeewa Wickramanayake, emphasized the significance of this moment, stating:
“This milestone is not only significant for EWIS but for the entire country. It is a testament to Sri Lanka’s ability to manufacture high-quality IT products that can compete on the global stage with our own skills, capabilities, and confidence. We are proud to showcase Sri Lanka’s technological and innovation excellence beyond local markets.”
EWIS maintains international quality standards, with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, CE, FCC, RoHS, and IEC 62368-1 certifications, ensuring compliance with global safety, environmental, and quality regulations. These certifications have positioned EWIS products as highly competitive in the international market.
With nearly four decades of expertise in ICT, EWIS has been delivering innovative solutions to education, business, and government sectors. Over the past 11 years, the company has refined its local manufacturing capabilities to produce high-quality, internationally competitive IT hardware.
