Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has warned that if a fair and just investigation into the Easter attacks is not initiated before its sixth anniversary, he will be forced to take to the streets in protest.
Speaking at a conference at the Colombo Archbishop’s Palace, he criticized successive governments for failing to fulfill promises made regarding the attacks.
“Those who ruled the country made promises but did not keep even one. We took steps to change that system by bringing this government to power. But if it does not change, we will have to reconsider,” the Archbishop stated.
He specifically called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to fulfill his promise, made at Katuwapitiya Church, to deliver justice for the victims.
“If we receive a fair and just response from the government before the 6th anniversary, we would be happy. Otherwise, we will have no choice but to take to the streets again,” he warned.
