
Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health, stating that any actions that put patients at risk, create hardship, or undermine the healthcare system will be addressed decisively.
Speaking at the World Kidney Day celebration organized by the All Sri Lanka Kidney Patients Association, the Minister emphasized that the government will not hesitate to take necessary steps in the best interests of the people.
Dr. Jayatissa stressed that the primary objective of the current administration is the well-being and health protection of the nation’s citizens. He urged healthcare professionals to align with this vision and act responsibly.
The Minister assured that no issue within the health sector is beyond resolution through constructive dialogue. He reiterated the government’s readiness to engage with healthcare professionals and address their concerns at any time.
Highlighting the difference between the current and past administrations, the Minister stated that the present government provides an open platform for discussion and problem-solving with health professionals. He reassured that the government will always prioritize the welfare of both healthcare workers and the public.
Dr. Jayatissa acknowledged the dedication of Sri Lanka’s 150,000-strong healthcare workforce, recognizing their indispensable role in the country’s health system. He emphasized that it is their duty to provide the highest level of care to patients in wards, outpatient departments, and clinics, regardless of the challenges they face.
He further noted that all government, non-governmental, and voluntary organizations share a common goal: to improve the quality of life for every citizen. The Minister pointed out that the government is utilizing taxpayer money to achieve this goal and is committed to ensuring the highest return for every rupee collected.
Finally, Dr. Jayatissa reiterated that the government aims to operate under a well-structured national plan, focusing on serving the people rather than enhancing the political image of individuals. He affirmed his dedication to continuously working for the welfare of the nation.
