Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dayasiri Jayasekara revealed in Parliament that not only Batalanda, but also 46 other torture chambers were operational in Sri Lanka during the 1988-89 period.
Speaking during a parliamentary debate, MP Jayasekara urged the government to launch a comprehensive investigation into these torture chambers and the atrocities committed during that time.
“These torture chambers should not be forgotten. Justice must be served for those who lost their lives at the hands of groups that called themselves ‘patriots’ back then,” he emphasized.
He further stated that a significant number of victims included professors, artists, Buddhist monks, and politicians, many of whom were brutally killed during the violent insurgency.
Jayasekara insisted that the country must uncover the full extent of the crimes committed during the era and ensure justice for the victims.
