Artificial intelligence has made a chilling prediction about what humans could look like in the distant future, and the results are far from what most would expect.
As AI technology advances, its ability to speculate about the future has captured the curiosity of many. Even at UNILAD, we decided to explore what AI envisions for humanity 1,000 years from now using the image-generating program Midjourney.
While these predictions should be taken with a grain of salt—after all, they are generated by a machine—they still provide an eerie glimpse into what could lie ahead.
The AI-created images depict a future where human faces are heavily integrated with technology, covered in a complex web of wires and mechanical components. This unsettling vision suggests a deeply intertwined relationship between humans and technology over the next millennium.
One of the generated figures appears to have sacrificed the skin on his face to accommodate the futuristic modifications, giving him a disturbingly inhuman appearance. His expression is one of discomfort, yet AI seems convinced that this is the direction humanity is headed.
Another image offers a slightly less extreme take, where a person retains their skin but still has intricate wiring woven across their face. While less grotesque, it remains an unsettling vision of potential beauty standards in the distant future—one where the number of wires attached to your face might be considered a status symbol, and keeping your skin could be optional.
Even AI’s depictions of individuals without technological modifications are unsettling. Among the results are eerie, distorted faces resembling characters from dystopian science fiction. Some resemble the Morlocks from The Time Machine, hinting that AI’s predictions might be influenced by popular sci-fi tropes.
If these images are any indication of the distant future, it’s safe to say that not everyone will be eager to embrace the transformation. Let’s just hope AI got this one wrong.
