IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is currently in remand custody, is scheduled to be produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court again today (March 20).
The Matara Magistrate is expected to announce the decision on Tennakoon’s bail application at 2:00 pm today.
Tennakoon, who had been evading authorities for 20 days following an arrest warrant related to a shooting incident near a hotel in the Pelena area of Weligama in 2023, surrendered to the court on March 19.
Following his surrender, the Matara Magistrate ordered that he be remanded until today.
In accordance with the court order, Deshabandu Tennakoon was transferred to Angunukolapelessa Prison under special security measures yesterday afternoon.
