
The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court, which sentenced six Pakistani nationals to death for the brutal murder of Priyantha Kumara, a Sri Lankan who was working as a manager in a Pakistani garment factory, has also sentenced seven other Pakistani nationals to life imprisonment with rigorous imprisonment for the same charges.
The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court has sentenced 76 more Pakistani nationals to two years of rigorous imprisonment each for their alleged involvement in the murder of Mr. Priyantha Kumara. The court ruled that the prosecution had proved the charges against them beyond reasonable doubt.
In December 2021, the Pakistani police filed a case against 900 Pakistani nationals in the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court on charges of assaulting and burning to death Mr. Priyantha Kumara, who was working as a manager at a garment factory in Sialkot, Pakistan, over allegations that he had insulted Islam.
The Pakistani police filed a case against the accused several months after the incident. The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court, which tried the case against the accused, examined the evidence provided by 43 people, including eyewitnesses to the incident.
After a lengthy trial, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court, having determined that the prosecution had proved the charges against 89 of the 900 accused beyond reasonable doubt, sentenced six Pakistani nationals who were directly involved in this crime to death and seven other Pakistani nationals to life imprisonment with rigorous imprisonment.
The court further sentenced 76 other Pakistani nationals, who testified that they were involved in the events surrounding the murder, to two years of rigorous imprisonment each.
