
An agreement has been reached between Minister Bimal Ratnayake and the Port Trade Union Confederation to enhance several benefits for port workers, including a significant increase in their annual bonus by Rs. 100,000.
The agreement, which is set to be presented to the Board of Directors for approval on the 26th, outlines that 60 percent of the bonus will be paid this year, while the remaining 40 percent will be provided in 2026.
Additionally, the discussions resulted in other concessions, including an 80 percent increase in salary increments for port workers starting from August and an enhancement of the incentive allowance of Rs. 3,500 distributed at the beginning of the year.
The agreement marks a notable improvement in benefits for port workers, reflecting successful negotiations between the government and labor unions.
