Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura has lifted conditions previously imposed on actress Damitha Abeyratne and her husband, who were accused of defrauding the public of Rs. 3 million by promising employment opportunities in Korea.
The decision was made following a request from their attorneys, Harith Hettiarachchi and Tharidu Wickramanayake. The magistrate ordered that the case be called again on September 23 for the Attorney General’s advice.
Additionally, the magistrate considered and approved the request to lift the travel ban imposed on the two suspects, instructing the Department of Immigration and Emigration to be informed. However, the suspects were warned to appear in court on the scheduled date.
Regarding the release of a vehicle allegedly connected to the case, the magistrate ruled that there was no evidence to suggest the vehicle was involved in the crime, and therefore, the court could not make a decision about it.
Both Damitha Abeyratne and her husband, who are currently out on bail, were present during the court proceedings.
