Deputy Minister of Vocational Education, Nalin Hewage, claims the National People’s Power (NPP) government has successfully revived Sri Lanka’s collapsing economy, earning public support and global trust.
Speaking to the media in Galle, Hewage highlighted that the NPP’s 159 members in Parliament have accomplished the work expected of approximately 9,000 elected officials, including members of Parliament, Provincial Councils, and Local Government Institutions.
“Currently, we only hold state power through the presidency and parliament. Out of nearly 9,000 members across Sri Lanka’s political system — 8,000 Pradeshiya Sabha members, 456 Provincial Council members, and 225 Parliament members — we have only 159 members in Parliament and 15 in Elpitiya,” Hewage stated.
He added that the NPP government has managed to stabilize the economy, raising the economic growth rate to around 5%. Hewage emphasized that the previous political culture, which contributed to the country’s downfall, has been significantly transformed into a more people-centric governance approach.
According to Hewage, the public is now urging the government to extend this effective governance model to local government institutions that drive development at the village level.
