The Ministry of Energy is engaged in ongoing discussions to draft a response to a letter from Adani Green Energy Sri Lanka regarding the proposed Mannar Wind Power Project.
Adani’s letter, which firmly reiterated that the project could only proceed under the original contractual conditions, has reportedly angered government officials. The company stated it would restart the project only if the government agrees to adhere to the previously agreed terms.
The Ministry of Energy had previously issued a letter requesting Adani to confirm within 14 days whether it intends to withdraw from the project. The ongoing discussions are expected to produce an official response soon.
The ambitious Mannar Wind Power Project includes the construction of two 484-megawatt wind farms and a related transmission system. Additionally, plans are in place to expand the 220 and 400-kilowatt transmission networks as part of the project.
Tensions are expected to rise as both sides continue negotiations, with the government trying to find a compromise that aligns with national interests.
