Sri Lanka Customs officers from the Postal Valuation Division have discovered unclaimed parcels containing drugs valued at Rs. 17.8 million at the Central Postal Exchange over the past two weeks.
The parcels reportedly arrived from countries including France, the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands, addressed to locations in Kandy, Negombo, Ja-Ela, Wellawatte, Nugegoda, Tangalle, Mahiyanganaya, and Jaffna.
Approximately 20 parcels were left unclaimed, prompting officials to obtain permission from the Postmaster General on March 19 to inspect them.
Upon inspection, officers found 272 grams of cannabis and 2,049 methamphetamine pills hidden in 14 parcels.
The seized drugs were identified and certified by officers from the Customs Narcotics Control Division before being handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further testing and investigation.
The discovery highlights ongoing efforts by Sri Lanka Customs to combat illegal drug trafficking through postal services.
