
Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe stated that increasing tax revenue is essential for the country’s development and economic growth.
He emphasized the need for a new tax policy instead of relying on various outdated taxes. The focus is on creating economic stability, job security, and attracting investments while considering effective tax policies implemented worldwide.
Samarasinghe explained that tax revenue forms a significant part of the income for many countries, including Sri Lanka. Therefore, while providing relief to the people, the government must also focus on collecting taxes efficiently.
The Minister highlighted that the government is actively working towards formulating a suitable tax policy to support economic growth and improve national revenue.
