Jathika Jana Balawegaya Colombo District Parliamentarian Lakshman Nipunaarachichi stated that Ranil Wickremesinghe’s civic rights cannot be revoked based on the findings of the Batalanda Commission report.
He explained that the commission was established under the 1948 Act, which does not allow for the revocation of civic rights. Nipunaarachichi added that if the commission had been established under the 1978 Act, civic rights could be revoked by securing a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
