The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially concluded its nearly five-year investigation into the death of renowned Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, labeling it as a “simple case of suicide.”
According to Indian media reports, the CBI has discharged all individuals named in two separate FIRs related to the case. This includes Sushant Rajput’s girlfriend, actress Rhea Chakraborty, her parents and brother, Rajput’s sister Priyanka, and a doctor. The CBI has confirmed that there is no evidence linking these individuals to charges of abetting suicide.
The agency has submitted a comprehensive final report, accompanied by supporting documents and a list of witnesses. The court has scheduled the hearing and final orders on April 8.
Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found deceased at his residence in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. Subsequently, the CBI had registered an FIR on August 6, 2020, naming Rhea Chakraborty, her family members, and two others based on charges such as abetment to suicide, cheating, wrongful confinement, theft, criminal breach of trust, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code. This FIR was initially lodged with Patna police by Rajput’s father, who alleged these individuals influenced his son’s death.
Following Sushant’s untimely death at the age of 34, there was a global outcry from fans and various organizations calling for a thorough investigation. Many speculated that influential figures in Bollywood or other powerful groups might have had a hand in Rajput’s death, suggesting it was murder rather than suicide. They cited irregularities in the autopsy, circumstances of death, and alleged destruction of evidence.
After extensive investigation spanning nearly five years, the CBI concluded that Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was a suicide.
The court’s final decision on the matter will be delivered on April 8, as reported by Indian media.
Rajput’s death adds to the list of several other prominent Indian actors and actresses whose deaths remain controversial or mysterious, including Divya Bharti, Sridevi, Jiah Khan, Guru Dutt, Parveen Babi, Smita Patil, Kunal Singh, Kuljeet Randhawa, Meena Kumari, and Nafisa Joseph.
