Retired power hitting Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera is prepared to come back and resurrect the team provided the incumbent Selection committee is asked to pack up and go.
Thisara who was forced into retirement two years ago over what he called shortsighted and unfair selection policies, said it was pathetic to note that he is yet to be replaced in the playing eleven and called the selectors good for nothing.
“One selector who was a bowler has played in more matches than the number of wickets he took while another has played in not more than five matches and yet another has just an average of 24 opening the batting for Sri Lanka.”
“If I am to come out of retirement with my position at number seven or eight still in need of a player like I was, then there has to be a proper selection committee in place,” said Thisara Perera.
Having watched the World Cup matches in the comfort of his home on television, Thisara said he felt hurt.
“We boasted about a record of winning 13 matches on the trot that included the World Cup qualifying round, but all that came to zero when we were exposed on the big stage.
“This was the result of lopsided Selection policies that left out senior players or they left out the quality in-form players to accommodate their favourites who would address them as ‘Sir’.
“The scorebook says a player scored a hundred, but it does not say he was dropped five or ten times. This is how they selected the team, “said Thisara.
